Trends in treatment patterns and survival outcomes in pancreatic cancer: A nationwide population-based study in Korea

Background The treatment of pancreatic cancer has evolved; however, real-world data on trends remain scarce. This study investigated patterns for and patient survival using a nationwide population-based in Korea. Methods Using the National Health Insurance database, from 78,920 patients diagnosed with Korea between 2006 2019 were extracted. Treatment by age group year diagnosis examined. Results Primary was delivered as follows: 16,562 (21.0%) underwent surgery, 20,998 (26.6%) received chemotherapy, 1,332 (1.7%) chemoradiotherapy, 40,040 (50.7%) supportive care only. proportion undergoing surgery or chemotherapy increased gradually all groups over time. commonly used anti-cancer drugs have changed gemcitabine±erlotinib to gemcitabine+nab-paclitaxel FOLFIRINOX. Survival improved mainly who chemotherapy. Median overall 5.5 months 2006–2008 9.8 2018–2019, greater improvement observed younger groups: 8.8–18.8 months, ≤59 years; 6.8–14.6 60–69 4.2–8.4 70–79 years, 2.4–3.4 ≥80 years (all p<0.0001). Conclusions An increase rates observed. generally past decade are groups.
